Sweet Find

I had the pleasure of spending the day with my Madre yesterday.  We are alike in many areas, but one.  She loathes shopping.  Yes, I know.....AGHAST!  I am her definitive polar opposite in that aspect.  I could live in a mall if I had the means necessary for it!  She hates it so much that when I was old enough to go shopping by myself, she would give me a few hundred bucks, her clothing and shoe sizes and tell me "Here, go get me some new clothes".  She said even from a wee girl, she knew I had an eye for fashion and what looks good on people.

When she arrived, she gave me a kiss and admired the stylish t-shirt I was wearing over my skinny jean capris.  "Where did you get that pretty top from?" she asked.  "Oh I got this from NY & Co....on sale, of course" I replied.  That's another thing..... I am an extremely savvy shopper.  I know when all the stores have their markdowns and I subscribe to all the websites so I am the first to know when they will be having a sale.  "Mom, I just got a discount card....if you purchase $75 worth of items.  You can have it if you'd like" I said.  She agreed, only if I picked out everything...."You know how much I hate shopping" she said.  Of course, you did not have to tell me twice!  I had my purse in hand and was out the door before she finished the sentence.

We arrived at the store and I went around picking out all tops for her, since she said she had plenty of bottoms at home.  We make our way to the checkout line when I spot from the corner of my eye this jacket (posted above). But what attracted me even more was the price card above it.  I gravitated towards it and my mom followed, knowing I must have spotted something really good to step out of the line.  I looked at the original price tag on it.... $89.95.  "Mom, can you believe the price on this?" I told her with a look of awe.  "That can't be right" she said.  I immediately tried it on and loved the jacket even more. The hanger does no justice for it.  But worn, over a woman's natural curves, wow.  She said at that price, I would be a fool not to take it and even offered to pay for it.

How much did we pay for this cool jacket I will be sporting come the fall over jeans and a t-shirt or cami?

$9.95.........Sweet find, indeed!

Black Widow

Ever since I was a wee little girl, I have been fascinated by movies.  Not only the story, but what it takes to make a movie.  Screen writing, blocking, lighting, scene development, hair and makeup, etc.  All the things that help us, the audience, believe we have been whisked away into a different time and place for roughly two hours.

This weekend we went to the theater and watched Iron Man 2.  I was especially excited to see this movie because it also featured Scarlett Johansson.  I am a huge fan of hers.  Not only is she amazingly beautiful and married to one Hollywood's most gorgeous leading men, but she is intelligent, extremely talented, and dedicated to her craft.  So much, that when she was shown the spandex, fit like a glove outfit she was to wear as "The Black Widow", she put herself on a rigorous health & fitness regime in order to do the costume justice.

Her results proved to be nothing short of Amazing!  The movie, I would say, was almost as good as the first one.  Hope Scarlett gets to reprise her role in the future.

Would You Care For Some Tea & Scones?

On an ordinary day of running errands,  I happened upon a little shop nestled out of sight from the main street.  I admit, I must have passed this place a few dozen times and never once noticed it.  If it weren't for the fact the Man needed to go into the locksmith located next door to it I probably would still be oblivious to it's existence.

For a girl like me, venturing into a locksmith shop is not "my cup of tea".  So when asked if I was going inside with him I replied "No."  I did look around the little plaza and a window immediately caught my eye.  It was dressed in lace curtains and had an antique bronze planter in the shape of a tricycle centered in the display with a lovely array of cascading plants and a table with beautiful teapots and tea cups and saucers.  It was calling my name.  I ventured out of the car, told the Man I would be next door and went to explore this delightful little shop that caught my eye.

As I opened the door and stepped through the threshold, I was transported to another little world.  The tiny little shop had a small bakers case filled with all kinds of scones and the counter behind it with a delightful array of different teas in large tins and a pair of two clear water jugs.  About a dozen little tables set for four were neatly set with fresh linens all around.  I couldn't help but smile as I saw the wallpapered walls adorned with antique pictures of the shop owners family.  Even though the shop is quite small, the owner took the time and love to select key pieces, like a beautiful antique china cabinet filled with tea sets and antique frames, and a low chest of drawers with about half a dozen more pictures.  Each of the patrons tables were adorned with one of a kind teapots and cups and saucers.  I was instantly enamoured by the place.

The Man walked in, having finished his errand next door, to see what I happened upon.  And he knew by the gleam in my eye and the smile on my face... I found a little piece of heaven.  I ordered 3 different variety of scones for us to try.  And indeed, as I thought, they were heavenly!

Since then, I drive to the little  tea and scone shoppe two mornings a week to purchase my fresh scones.  The shop owner even greets me by name.  I have also found a new variety of tea I am in absolute love with: Pomegranate Green Tea.

It is a wonderful thing to find a little unknown place that is pure gold and be able to make it part of your life's routine.  It's even better when you can share your find with friends.

Happy Thursday!

While We Are On the Topic of Scents.....

There comes a time in a young girl's life where she graduates from wearing the cutesy lil Disney princess fragrances sold at commercial retailers nationwide.  You know the ones... the ones that smell like bubblegum or strawberries.

But they are faced with a dilemma.  They are far too young for musky or heavily floral scents. So what's a young tween to do?

Gwen Stefani has come up with the perfect line of fragrances suitable for the 11-18 year old set.  Harajuku Lovers.  They smell beautiful and are not overpowering.  Not only that, it comes in adorable packaging which makes a delightful addition to their vanity table.  Today the lil Miss in my life reached a milestone in her life.  She just received Harajuku Lovers Baby as her very first "big girl" perfume.

She smells sweet!

Signature Scent

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Mine was wonderful.  Saturday, at midday, we set out on a 2 hour car ride to visit my best friend and her family. Usually on long car rides I bring along my canvas tote filled with my favorite magazines to peruse while The Man drives us safely to our destination.  It was while I was flipping through the latest edition of InStyle magazine that I realized Scarlett Johanssen and I have one very important thing in common.

What's that, you may ask?

An obsession with Thierry Mugler's Angel.

The addiction to this scent is so intense that friends and family instantly bring me to mind whenever they smell this delicious perfume on someone else.

I do switch the scent from time to time, but it always seems that Angel is the one I go right back to.  Why mess with a good thing, right?

What is your signature scent?

Polyvore

Mother's Day Goodies
Mother's Day Goodies by
I am addicted to www.polyvore.com.  Early last year an online friend of mine introduced me to the site when I was looking for ideas for a teen room.  I was shocked to discover they also had fashion ideas and sets.  For months I have been addicted, passing countless hours perusing all the beautiful sets created by it's members.  I never had the nerve to create one.

That is....until today.

Today I decided to make a collage of some of the goodies I received for Mother's Day.  It's simple, but a start.  I can't wait till I acquire more experience with it.  Creating sets can definitely become my latest obsession!

Happy Mother's Day

Wednesday Want

I am in absolute LOVE with this Louis Vuitton masterpiece Rachel Bilson wore to the 2010 Met Gala this week!

Starbucks....You're on Notice

I am a huge...I mean HUGE Starbucks fanatic.

I have tried other latte's and frappachinos....none of them seem to measure up to the high standards made by Starbucks.

While Dunkin Donut's Caramel latte is delish, it doesn't hold a candle to Starbucks Caramel Macchiato.  And forget about Mc D's Caramel latte....didn't stand a chance!  So it is natural that I would be a bit apprehensive about trying Mc Donald's new Caramel Frap.

But the ads for it are everywhere.  I can not go through the drive thru window at Mc Donald's without the cashier asking me "Welcome to Mc Donald's.  Would you like to try one of Mc Donald's new Mocha or Caramel Frappachino today?"  To which I always respond with a polite and blunt "No, thank you."  After all, Starbucks makes the best Caramel Frappachino ever...why mess with a good thing, right?

Magazines have conducted taste comparisons, most of which have stated Mc D's version is shockingly better. And at half the price, a better value as well.  This "perked" my interest. Should I try it?  I mean, summer is coming and I do consume many fraps during the dog days of summer.  Of course the bargain shopper in my head was screaming "Hey! You can get 2 Mc D's fraps for the price of one at Starbucks!"  Good point, duly noted.  And with the rising price of gas, Mc D's is a whole 6 miles closer than my closest Starbucks.

My resistance was wearing thin.

Last night, I caved.  After contemplating my impending purchase all day I decided to go for it.  I mean, what did I have to lose?  $2.29?  If I didn't like it I can confidently say that was the price to pay for knowledge.  I wouldn't have to wonder anymore.

I was still leery when I got up to the counter and asked the assistant manager, who I am friendly with knows exactly how to make my 5 times a week addiction to a large Sweet Tea with light ice and a lemon, "tell me the truth, is this drink as good as Starbucks?" Her answer, and the answer of 3 of her coworkers..."It's better!"  They're paid to say that.  I am sure Mc Donald's has a secret camera somewhere recording and waiting for the moment one of their staff members bashes the food they are hired to sell.  I quickly ordered my drink before I can change my mind.  "Let me know what you think" the assistant manager said when she handed me the frozen concoction.

My verdict: It was absolutely heavenly!  You can literally taste the coffee in the frap as well as the caramel, something I didn't realize up until now was not as profound in Starbucks version.  Another plus, their frap is well blended....no sucking up pieces of ice, a common annoyance of mine when I drink Starbucks Caramel Frappachino.

Starbucks, you have met your match!  Consider yourself, on notice.

A Lil Foot Pampering

We were blessed with temps in the 80's all weekend....and the one thing I wanted to do most?  Open up my brand new boxes of sandals.

So what stopped me?

My little toesies were not sandal ready. * Sigh *

So without any further ado.... I will be visiting my favorite nail technician for a little foot TLC.

Have a happy Monday!

Christina's Back

I always loved Christina Aguilera since the start of her career.  She's edgy, soulful, and feminine. Love this new song. The vid has a Lady Gaga vibe.

Love how she made red her signature lip color!
